We know we should be active, so why aren’t we?
I don’t have time
Make it a priority, make time. Get into a routine. Take every chance you can to be active even if it is for only for a few minutes – do exercises whilst you are waiting for the kettle to boil or in the advert breaks when watching tv. It is quite easy to achieve 30 minutes a day if you break it down. Why not find out how to fit in 30 minutes a day with our hints and tips.
I’m too tired
Once you start to make exercise part of your day you will soon feel more energised and less tired.
I have a health problem and exercise might make it worse
Most health problems can be helped by activity. Talk to your doctor, and they maybe able to refer you on to the PALS scheme.

I am scared of getting injured
Why not join one of our walking groups, or try one of our Aquafit classes, these are supervised sessions that are low impact so you are unlikely to get injured.
I cant afford it
Kirklees offers loads of free activities, so why not check to see what is on in your area. Why not walk short journeys instead of driving this will not only save you money but will also help towards your 30 mins a day.
I have no-one to do it with
Try to persuade a friend or relative to join you or why not join one of our groups, or take part in an activity class. You can search to see what’s on in your area now. It’s a great way to meet new people and get fit at the same time.
There’s nothing to do where I live and I don’t have transport
Make time2beactive around your home – try out some of our home based exercises.
I’m to old
You are never to old – there is always something that you can do and there’s lots of ideas for home based exercises.
I would like to exercise but I am embarrassed as I am overweight
People from all shapes and sizes will be exercising so no need to feel self conscious or why not try some of our online exercises at home until you feel more comfortable.
I have never been the sporty type
You don’t have to play sport to be active – try gardening, dancing walking or swimming. These activity’s are very sociable.
What happens if I am not active enough?
Getting older is obviously something you can’t control but how you age is something you can make a real choice about. If you choose to be inactive as you get older your quality of life may be adversely affected. Your body becomes stiffer and your movements more awkward.
You may notice some of the following happening:
- you have less agility
- you have less energy
- you don’t look or feel as good as someone who is active
- you begin to lose your independence
